The Growth of Electrostatic Technology By ISSA Straight Talk with Jeff Cross

Cleanfax-Video

Traditional spraying applications were up-to-date until the coronavirus hit the world, and virtually overnight innovation has taken over. In this Straight Talk episode, learn how electrostatic technology is becoming standard, especially in larger venues, and how one leading distribution company is embracing change.

Choosing the right solution to handle increased facility disinfection

During the pandemic as BSCs and in-house service providers adapt to more frequent and comprehensive cleaning services.

Historically, we have focused on the floors at facilities; however, with the pandemic we have seen a surge in the need for the full deep cleaning of facilities with an emphasis on high-touch areas. This has led to an increased demand for electrostatic sprayers, touchless cleaning systems, indoor air quality equipment, and autonomous cleaning equipment.

Shelborne South Beach – Reopens: Cleaned with Confidence Using EMist Electrostatic Sprayers

Shelborne South Beach

In preparation for its reopening on October 1, 2020, the Shelborne South Beach is taking steps to ensure the safety of its guests and staff with the launch of their new “cleaned with confidence” seal of assurance. The hotel has been closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization’s statements regarding the COVID-19 and is working hard to ensure that all guidelines on hygiene and cleanliness are met, using cutting-edge EMist equipment to clean guestrooms and public areas, while also deploying hand sanitizers.

During this time and going forward, the hotel has increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting public spaces, with a focus on high-touch areas such as the counter at the front desk, elevators (and elevator buttons), door handles, public bathrooms, the fitness center and even room keys. The hotel’s housekeeping staff also performs a deep cleaning of guestrooms, with particular attention paid to remote controls, light switches, lamps and bathroom fixtures, leaving no detail unsanitized.

United Airlines Uses EMist’s® Electrostatic Sprayers

“We’ll be using an electrostatic sprayer to disinfect air and surfaces within the cabin, starting with international arrivals into our US subs.”

– Jon Roitman, SVP Airport & Network Operations, United Airlines

In today’s world of COVID-19, our supply chain has been disrupted at the same time that people want and need our equipment the most. I can’t tell you how significant that challenge has been, but we are working around the clock to get our product to you as quickly as humanly possible.

We’ve seen an overwhelming demand for our equipment. To meet the demand, we’ve recently hired more than 60 people, many of whom lost their jobs because of COVID-19. We’ve resourced and retooled our equipment to be made in the USA. We’ve increased our manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution network to meet the need.

All that to say, we are committed to getting your product to you as quickly and as safely as we can.

EPA: Electrostatic Spray Application

EPA has expedited reviews for addition of the electrostatic spray method of application for currently registered or new product registrations that are on EPA’s Disinfectant List N or would qualify for List N.

Recently, there has been increased interest in the application of antimicrobial disinfectants on List N via electrostatic spray given the need to disinfect large indoor spaces to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19.

Coronavirus: using EMist® electrostatic sprayers to apply disinfectants

Best practices: using electrostatic technology for better surface disinfection

In the infection prevention and control industry, environmental cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces is becoming more important than ever before. Research studies show that environmental cleaning and disinfection can play an important role in helping to prevent the spread of infection. A new, promising technology in this industry is the application of EPA-approved disinfectants utilizing electrostatic application systems for proper surface disinfection. Electrostatics is a proven technology in the agricultural and automotive industries. This technology is now being integrated into the infection prevention and control industry as a tool to break the chain of pathogen mobility.

COVID-19: EMist® electrostatic sprayers are being used around the world to apply disinfectant more thoroughly

As coronavirus death toll rises, innovative infection prevention methods are needed.

The deadly new coronavirus has now killed thousands and infected thousands more around the world.

Infected people spread the virus through coughing, sneezing or talking. Droplets from an infected person get into the air and are inhaled by people nearby. Anyone within three feet can easily be infected. Germs are also spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with the germ, and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth.

BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGY

The EPIX360 is the most effective handheld disinfectant sprayer in the world. Built to work, this cordless electrostatic sprayer is powerful, durable, and provides breakthrough application performance – more coverage, less waste, and better results. Simply fill the 8-ounce tank with a safe EPA-approved water-soluble disinfectant, pull the trigger, and the EPIX360 goes to work laying down an even, uniform and wraparound layer of germ-killing power up to 4,000 high-touch point ft2. Plus, with the advanced EPIX technology, grounding is never an issue. And, unlike other electrostatic equipment, the EPIX360 works flawlessly and consistently, improves transfer efficiency, prevents shocks and electrical hazards, and eliminates the need to wear anti-static gloves or bonding straps to prevent electrostatic buildup. OPPOSITES ATTRACT

They say opposites attract and that is certainly the case with electrostatic charging. Have you ever rubbed a balloon against your head to make it stick to a wall? That’s basic electrostatic charging. When you rub the balloon against your head, it causes the balloon to take on free electrons creating a negative charge. The negatively charged balloon is then highly attracted to a neutral or positively charged surface like a wall. Like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other (think about magnets). Magic? Not at all, it’s just good science. The agricultural and automotive industries have used electrostatic technology for decades to provide a more efficient and cost-effective method of applying chemicals and paint. We use this science to apply disinfectants. Electrostatic application of chemicals dramatically increases droplet attraction and attachment to surfaces. In fact, research indicates that electrostatic application is 8 times more effective than using an uncharged sprayer. This deposition of disinfectant happens when atomized droplets are discharged from the equipment nozzle and form a solid, uniform coating on the target surface. Learn More

SMART TECHNOLOGY

EPIX technology is smart technology. The electrostatic sprayer continuously detects the polarity (+) or (-) of the user and the equipment and adjusts automatically so that grounding is never an issue. The chemical is first atomized, passes through an electrostatic-induction nozzle, charged using a bipolar power supply, and then discharged toward the target area. The bipolar supply causes the electrical charges to be alternatively redistributed, resulting in droplets having an excess of either positive (+) or negative (-) charges. These electrostatically charged droplets are so attracted to the targeted area that they coat the side, edge, and backside of surfaces. This wraparound effect creates an even, consistent and comprehensive coverage of chemical, reduces overspray, reduces wasted chemical, and provides significant results. Learn More

MORE EFFICIENT. MORE EFFECTIVE.

Applying chemical using an electrostatic sprayer is more efficient and effective than spray-and-wipe. For most disinfectants to work, a targeted surface must be completely coated and remain wet for up to 10 minutes. Plus, all targeted surfaces need to be disinfected correctly – not just “high-touch” areas. Spray-and-wipe is hit-and-miss, leaving whole areas not disinfected. With electrostatic disinfection, every surface can be coated in less time, using less chemical, and with better outcomes.
